Job Hunting Beliefs You Should Not Actually Believe

1. Big Companies give higher compensation. So you make the most of what you can to get accepted by one of these Top Notch companies.

It has always been a misconception that top companies give a higher rate in terms of compensation compared to other companies. This maybe partially true, however, there is usually a salary range when it comes to rank and file employees. So, as fresh graduates, there are a lot more things to prove to get the salary you have been hoping for. Work your way up, establish a good reputation and a good working relationship with the people you are working with. Try to excel in every task that is assign to you. With that, you gain more experience and soon you’re ready to make some negotiations with your salary or if you’re lucky enough, promotion and salary increase is just within your reach.

2. Apply only to a job related to your course to make sure you have more chances of getting hired.

Applying only to a job related to your course does not guarantee that you will get hired. There are many jobs out there that require basic skills. It's not probably a job related to what you have finished in college but who knows this might be your stepping stone to get your dream job. Be flexible, going out of your comfort zone sometimes would help you boost your confidence and discover that there are other skills hidden inside you.

3. Your motto when applying for a job: It is not what you know, It’s whom you know.

Hey! You want a job right. Then prove that you deserve the position by doing it on your own. It’s not because the manager is your cousin’s friend or your college friend’s mom. Well, it‘s good to have connections at some point, that means you get to be in the priority list during an interview. But isn’t it more fulfilling to know that you were hired because of your skills and capabilities?

4. Your resume says it all: You have better chances of getting the job if you have a professionally written resume.

Well, most applicants are hired because of their qualifications and these are usually summarized in your resume. But the fact is, these resume does not guarantee that you will get the job. A perfectly written resume is an advantage, yes, because you will stand out from the rest of the applicant. You will easily get noticed and most likely be in the priority list of interviewee.

5. Keep yourself humble. Showing humility can get you hired.

Most applicants, especially fresh college graduates tend to be meek and shy, very polite and seldom speak up during job interviews. They think that speaking up about their achievements, is a big turn off for employers. Having graduated from top universities as well as having taken some online training courses are definitely an advantage. Actually, employers like out spoken applicants who show confidence; someone who knows how to market themselves and shows that they are worthy to be accepted for the job. But of course, everything must be done in a polite manner so it won’t be annoying for the employer. Let them know that you are a talented individual who can be an asset to the company.

Well, this is the truth; getting the job that you want will surely happen. The key here is confidence, believe in yourself and show them what you’ve got. Always think positive.
